Ever since Queen Victoria wore a white lace dress and veil on her wedding day in 1840, white has been traditional choice for brides the world over, but it’s by no means the only option.Check out these famous colourful brides.
Wallis Simpson – Pale Blue
The twice-married American divorcée became one of the most talked-about women in the world in 1936 when the then-King of Britain, Edward VIII, abdicated in order to be able to marry her. Her dress became just as famous – created by Mainbocher in “Wallis blue”, a shade created to match her eyes.
Dita von Teese – Purple
The burlesque dancer chose a traditional-style princess gown by Vivienne Westwood in non-traditional purple for her wedding to Marilyn Manson in 2005.
Elizabeth Taylor – Yellow
The actress wore an amazing mustard gown for her first wedding to Richard Burton in 1964, her fifth marriage. It wasn’t her first colourful wedding dress either, since Taylor wore olive green when she married her fourth husband and nor was it her last, choosing pale green when she remarried Burton 11 years later, and pale yellow when she wed her eighth and final husband – in 1991.
Gwen Stefani – Pink
The singer had no doubts about a dip-dyed gown by John Galliano for her wedding to Gavin Rossdale.
